Patient and Public Involvement
Get Involved in Research at the IMS-MRL
At the Institute of Metabolic Science – Metabolic Research Laboratories (IMS-MRL), we are committed to involving patients, caregivers, and the public in shaping the future of metabolic health research. Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) is a key part of how we ensure our work stays relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Why your involvement matters
By joining our PPI activities, you can:
- Help shape research questions that reflect real-life experiences and priorities.
- Improve the quality of research by sharing insights into what matters most to patients and families.
- Increase the effectiveness of research outcomes that can improve daily care and treatment options.
- Contribute to making research more ethical, transparent, and accessible.
Our research includes:
- Clinical studies focused on obesity, diabetes, and related conditions.
- Basic science projects exploring how metabolism works at the cellular and tissue level.
- Community initiatives to raise awareness and encourage public dialogue about metabolic health.
How you can get involved
We welcome people with lived experience, carers, and anyone with an interest in science and health. There are many ways to take part, such as:
- Joining a research advisory group.
- Attending discussion groups or feedback sessions.
- Helping us plan events and create materials for the public.
- Sharing your ideas or lived experience to support new projects.
PPI Opportunities
We are interested in the impact of weight loss drugs around the time of pregnancy. Our collaborators at the University of Edinburgh are conducting a survey of women who have had a positive pregnancy test within 6 months of taking a weight loss drug.
